SHIPYARD IN VIET NAM (PART 1)

Vietnam is a country with a long coastline, many closed bays and deep-water ports, which are very suitable for the construction of seaport and shipyard or ship repair workshop. Shipyard in Vietnam can be divided into two section: Private and Government. Among them, the largest shipyard in Vietnam can be mentioned as HVS – Hyundai Vietnam shipbuilding (Formerly Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard).
Economic crisis, as well as shipyard cannot get more contract for newbuiding, leading to bankruptcy of a number of Vietnamese government corporations, many shipbuilding and repairing companies in Vietnam went bankrupt. such as Vinashin, Sai Gon Ship Yard (SSY), Soffel under EMAS Singagpore… Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding was repaired before, but moved to new construction in recent years.
Some ship repair factories still in operation today include:

1. SSIC (Sai Gon Ship Building Industry Company)

Saigon Shipbuilding Industry Company (SSIC) is a shipbuilding and repair company located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The company was established in 1975 and has since been involved in the construction and repair of various types of vessels, including cargo ships, oil tankers, tug boats, and fishing boats.

  • A mobile crane with a lifting capacity of 50 tons runs along the dock.
  • The quay system is 300m long.
  • 04 mooring buoys (From 10,000DWT to 30,000DWT)

2. SSMI (Saigon Ship Marine)

SSMI (Saigon Shipmarin Industry Company Limited) is a shipyard located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The company specializes in ship repair and maintenance, shipbuilding, and offshore engineering services. It was established in 2010 and has since gained a reputation for providing quality services to its customers.

SSMI has experience building a variety of vessels including oil tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, and tugboats. They also offer services related to fabrication, welding, steel structure manufacturing, and mechanical engineering.   • Buoys: BP02 mooring 25,000 DWT & BP03 mooring 25,000 DWT.
  • Floating docks: 02 docks
    • 8500T floating dock: Dimensions (L x W x H) = 148.8 m x 29 m x 17m capable of receiving ships up to 27,000 DWT.
    • 6000T Floating dock: Dimensions (L x W x H) = 136 m x 22.5m x 14.6 m capable of receiving ships up to 15,000DWT.

3. NOSCO SHIPYARD

  • Lifting platform Length 224m x width 35m, Lift up to 28,000 tons (equivalent to a ship with a volume of 75,000 DWT)
  • The most modern lifting platform system in Southeast Asia, capable of receiving ships with a volume of up to 75,000 DWT
  • The quay is 300m long x 22.5m wide, can accommodate 2 panamax size ships and 1 Handy size ship
  • ON LAND REPAIR PATCH: Can accommodate up to 8 transport vessels, capacity: 30,000-75,000 DWT

4. Dung Quat

Dung Quat Shipyard (DQS) is a state-owned shipbuilding and ship repair facility located in Dung Quat Economic Zone, Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. It was established in 2006 as a joint venture between the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) and the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam).

DQS specializes in building and repairing a wide range of vessels, including bulk carriers, container ships, tankers, and other types of commercial vessels. The shipyard has a total land area of 62 hectares and is equipped with modern facilities and equipment to handle various shipbuilding and repair activities.

In recent years, DQS has become a key player in the Vietnamese shipbuilding industry and has gained recognition for its high-quality vessels and efficient ship repair services. The shipyard has established partnerships with international shipping companies and has been involved in various shipbuilding and repair projects for clients from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
