HYDRAULIC CYLINDER OVERHAUL

Hydraulic cylinder overhaul is the process of overhauling, inspection and repairing hydraulic cylinders during work that the cylinder has problems such as pressure drop, leaking, scratches, and surface pitting. In addition, when the problems are critical, for example there are deep scratches and the hydraulic cylinder bar is collapse or deformed.

Normally, the overhaul work will be done on-board. The most purpose of overhaul is cleaning, change the damage seal and inspection the part of cylinder.

LEADING THE ISSUES:

The signal of damaged hydraulic cylinders such as scratches, cracks, warping, deformation from:

  • External impact
  • Improper installation
  • Dirty hydraulic oil
  • Impact from the environment temperature when operating with too high or too low temperature
  • The pressure of the system is overloaded when the load exceeds the allowable limit.
  • As for the signal of vibration, jerking, strange sound or inactivity due to the following reasons:
  • Contamination oils.
  • Valves are installed improperly, in the opposite direction or screws are not tightened in the system.
  • Using an unsuitable seal.
  • The hydraulic cylinder supply pressure is not stable.

HYDRAULIC CYLINDER RECONDITION PROCESS

  • Determine the location and extent of the damage.
  • Remove the old galvanized roofing and check the damage of the cylinder part.
  • Hydraulic cylinder repair methods such as.
    • If it is warped, apply pressure processing.
    • For pitting on the surface, the metal welding method is applied.
    • Scratches, use grinding or machining method
    • If it is deformed or has deep cracks, heat treatment of metal is applied.
  • Coating with a protective surface layer and applying hard chrome coating technology to restore surface dimensions.
  • Polish the cylinder part.
  • Assembly and operation test: Check the operability as well as the fault to fix it in time.
However, the time for cylinder recovery in ship repair is very short. Some of issues above is critical one, take time to repair and the repair should be in workshop, so once received request to recondition the vessel normally will take the cylinder back for the next voyage.

HARD CROM SHOCKET TECHNOLOGY

Currently, the option of restoring hydraulic cylinders is through the use of hard chromium plating technology to create a chromium coating on the surface of the hydraulic cylinder. The advantage of this chromium coating is that it is up to 800µm thickness, with an average hardness of 70 HRC, so it supports to restore the cylinder surface size and effectively prevent scratches, wear and tear as well as renewing the hydraulic cylinder after a while. Using time is oxidized, rusted and saved on replacement costs.

Hard chrome coating with a thickness of about 5 – 700 µm, capable of lubricating, retaining oil for hydraulic cylinders or rollers, piston rings, molds, and cylinders can increase service life by 3-5 times after when coated with hard chrome plating. In addition, hard chromium plating technology is also applied to restore other machine parts such as: textile roller shafts, printing rollers for printing industry, screw shafts, steel rollers, supporting shafts, molds…
