HATCH COVER CYLINDER RECONDITION

Hatch Cover Hydraulic system

Hydraulic cylinder is a part of hydraulic system. A hydraulic cylinder is a hydraulic actuator that produces linear motion by converting hydraulic energy back to mechanical motion. Hydraulic cylinder can be compared to a ‘human muscle’ because with the hydraulic system creates movement.

It is necessary to understand the hydraulic cylinder structure, as well as how to operate it, so that we can operate the hydraulic cylinder in the most professional way, increase efficiency and partly increase the life of the hydraulic cylinder.

Cylinder housing:

The hydraulic cylinder tube (Cylinder housing, cylinder pipe…) is a seamless round cylindrical part. It can also be called a cylinder barrel, but whatever its name is, its function is to contain and hold cylinder pressure. The cylinder tube is ground, smooth.

Cylindrical cap base:

The main function is to keep the pressure at one end. The cap is connected to the cylinder tube by bolts or by welding

Cylinder head:

The main function is to keep the pressure at the other end. Hold the head and cylinder head with an O ring.

Pistons:

This is an important detail, it is responsible for separating the pressure zones inside the cylinder tube. Usually, the piston is attached to the piston rod via bolt, others can be welded.

Piston rod:

Normally, steel is choosen, chromium-plated steel to make piston rods to ensure the best rigidity and corrosion resistance. The function of the piston rod is to connect the component of the machine with the actuator to perform the required work task. These piston rods are polished, smooth and have seals attached to help limit and prevent leaks.

Oil inlet and outlet parts:

Provides hydraulic fluid for piston operation.

Seal:

Direct friction between cylinder housing and piston, increasing the tightness between the gaps to avoid oil loss

Bushing:

The guide bar for the piston rod avoids collision with the cylinder head, minimizing the possibility of scratching the piston rod and piston head. This bushing is located in the cylinder head.

Pricipal working condition:

This system works on a very simple hydraulic cylinder working principle: Force applied at one point is transferred to another through the use of an incompressible fluid. All force generated by the cylinder is provided by the hydraulic fluid (oil or viscous).

Common damage is cylinder scratches, cracks, deformation and warping. There are many causes of cylinder failure but are divided into the following main groups:

  • Cylinders are affected by the surrounding environment to warp and warp.
  • Hydraulic oil has deposits, dirt and iron particles that reduce oil quality.
  • Foreign body or metal debris enters the cylinder.
  • Improper installation of the cylinder or during the installation process, there is a strong impact that causes the cylinder to be scratched or scratched.
  • The temperature of the cylinder medium is too high, causing the cylinder to deform.
  • The cylinder load is too heavy, the high pressure causes the cylinder to deform.
  • The environment is too harsh at sea with high concentrations of salt and moisture in the air, causing local or complete corrosion of the working surface of the cylinder rod.

Cylinder not working or when the operation is strange sound or vibrating is one of the problems:

  • Cavitation – often happens and leaves serious consequences.
  • Using gaskets that are not the right size, too large or too small for requirements.
  • Hydraulic oil with gas causes the cylinder to jerk or vibrate when performing forward and backward.
  • The pressure supplied to the cylinder is unstable, abnormally increased or decreased, too high or too low compared to the required level.
  • Installation mistake: Screws are not tightened, hydraulic valve is not installed correctly, pump is in reverse, pump pipe is installed correctly.
  • Due to the mechanical structure.
  • The cylinder is deformed due to the pipe being twisted.
  • Unstable pump flow can be caused by the pump or the pipeline.

Re-condition:

In the mechanical processing industry in general and hydraulic mechanics in particular, to meet the requirements of machines, high precision is required. To stand large loads, high speeds, high pressures and temperatures. Bench cylinders, hydraulic cylinders, crankshafts, pistons, rolling mills…. Over time, during operation, the surface will be worn, scratched… the size will be changed so it will affect the operation of the system.

Cylinder:

  • Hydraulic Cylinder housing is usually scratched, or pitted. Light scratches are thin on the surface, heavy are deep scratches.
  • For deep scatches, we use the additive welding method that does not change the structure of the material, then process it on lathes and grinders to obtain uniform dimensions.
  • For long-term pitting and rusting, it is imperative to grind all the pits and restore the old diameter.
  • For pitted or scratched hydraulic cylinder cover, we have to smooth grinding, depending on the size, we choose the method of plating recovery or raising the Piston parameter.
  • Replace seal, O ring…

Hydraulic Piston

  • Hydraulic pistons are often scratched, pitted, bumped, leading to oil leakage and pressure capacitors

Inspection and testing:

After finishing processing the hydraulic cylinder housing and hydraulic piston, we proceed to assemble the hydraulic cylinder system, connect to hydraulic power unit and tested for pressure and load test.
