CYLINDER OVERHAUL – SHIP REPAIR IN VIETNAM

Onboard of ship, there are many part working with cylinder. All of this equipment shall be checked and maintain correctly to extend the self-life of equipment.

The equipment/ engine can be list out below:

Reason to make the cylinder stuck, leak… can be:

1. Cylinder is working overload for a long time.
2. Maintenance is not correct/ No maintenance for long time.
3. Hydraulic oil is contaminant.

The procedure to re-condition of cylinder may difference for each workshop or manufacture but in general, the procedure below will be performed:

1. Remove the cylinder from equipment.
2. Disassembly by crane/ chain block with correct hand tools.
3. Cleaning and dry.
4. Inspection and record/ report:
   
   • Piston: May found scratches/ pitting, crack weld.
   • Cylinder inner: Crack, scratches or pitting…
5. Re-condition (Not over 3 times recommendation).
6. Replace spare part: O-ring, seal…
7. Final cleaning.
8. Re-assembly.
9. Install and testing.

Note: In all the time, the location and adjacent areas shall be ensure about clean. Rugs or clothes must be clean and dry also.
